Sports Blog Intro

Hello everyone, I am Christopher Phillips, and you are on my sports blog. This is the blog that I made to document my day-to-day activities, hobbies, and what I feel about it all. Many people like to keep journals or personal diaries; I just went one step ahead and decided to share it all with the world. I am an ex-pat in Sharjah, which has many perks, but sometimes it gets a bit sad. My hobbies include playing recreational sports, fishing, and gym, for which all of those I must travel to Dubai to do, except going to the gym.

Please keep reading to know more about my team and the sports that I preferred the most.

My Team:

I am a member of a team named Shockers. My team plays in 3 leagues, and the name of the whole league is Emirates Softball League. I play Slow-pitch Adult Competitive Softball. The Emirates Softball League has a Competitive men’s league. It has a Competitive Co-Ed league, and it also has a Co-Ed Recreation league. I have played in this league for about two years now, and I enjoy spending the time here. I am decent at the game, and I get along well with my teammates. We do not consume alcohol here, although alcohol consumption by the slow-pitch softball players is a norm in the US. Here, I have become accustomed to the lack of alcohol (adult beverages is what we say here) while playing.

Other sports that I preferred:

Along with slow-pitch softball, I also play volleyball here. I have gotten pretty decent at this sport by practicing excessively. I also prefer playing in the team because when I was in the USA, I played in an actual League. The sports system is a bit different here in the UAE. Here, they are much more invested in the training and tournaments. They conduct regular tournaments, so they are well trained and physically fit, but they do not make leagues. I prefer leagues. Firstly, because there is a feeling of companionship in the leagues. Secondly, teamwork teaches you a lot. One learns patience, hard work, and perseverance by playing with the team. And my previous experience also favo

rs this method. The league also boosts sportsmanship morale and spirit.

Lack of teams:

Another downfall of no leagues or lack of teams here is that if you keep on switching teams every two weeks, you cannot bond with a particular group of people. If you want to play sports in a team manner, you need to learn the art of staying with one group for a long time, that is just my personal preference. However, there are numerous other sports here too. Such as soccer, American football, tennis, basketball, and so on, but right now, I am only invested in softball and volleyball.

If you live in UAE or have an experience of playing sports here, do let me know in the comments. And what do you think about the sports leagues here?

I will be looking forward to it.

Thank you for reading!
